Year 6 visits the Sutton Life Centre
Last week, all children in Year 6 at St George’s Junior School, Weybridge had the opportunity to visit the amazing Life Centre; the country’s first ‘super classroom,’ as part of the PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) curriculum.
The Sutton Life Centre is designed to help Year 6 pupils make the right choices in life. When the right choices are made, life chances and quality of life are enhanced and good citizenship is the result.
In the two hour session, the children navigated their way through a street, a railway station where life sized trains flashed past at 100mph, the rooms of a house and a 360 degree virtual reality theatre. They were guided as they made tough choices on real life subjects such as protecting themselves and keeping personal possessions safe, litter, urban hazards, anti-social behaviour and many other useful topics.
The immersive nature of the learning environment really captivated both children and teachers! Powerful images were backed up by breathtaking facts which promoted discussion both at the end of the session with Constable Ash, the resident community police officer and back in the classroom.
Our visit really helped our Year 6 children as they prepare for the exciting move up to senior school.
