Year 5 bring 'Tales from Dickens' to life

Year 5 brought Charles Dickens stories to life on the 18 & 19 October, as they performed Tales from Dickens, an exploration of the most famous Dickensian narratives.

Each class performed a shortened version of one of Dickens's great tales: J5.1 performed Little Dorritt, J5.2 performed Great Expectations, J5.3 performed Oliver Twist and J5.4 performed David Copperfield. Each production was played in full Victorian costume.

Year 5 really enjoyed the opportunity to recreate Dickens’s incredible characters on stage and to lose themselves in the wonderful stories. Drama Club members played the speaking roles brilliantly and were ably supported by non-drama club members who narrated some of the stories and appeared in non-speaking roles.

The plays were directed by Curriculum Leader of Drama, David Lawson Lean with musical support from Lindsay Marns. Curriculum Leader of Art, Sara O’Connell, again created an outstanding Victorian set. Amelie Morgan and James Symonds assisted with Drama Club rehearsals and the production was supported by Alison Dawe and the Year 5 team.

Audiences were thrilled by the young actors’ terrific performances and the production was a great success for Year 5.
