World Book Day finally celebrated at the Junior School

St George's Junior School finally got the chance to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 8 March, after the previously planned events were cancelled due to the snow earlier this month.

The children from Nursery right the way through to Year 6 were extremely excited to celebrate this wonderful event and have the chance to discover new literature.

The Lower Years' children were given the theme 'Ready for Bed' and came to school still in their pyjamas ready for a very special 'bedtime story', whilst the Upper Years' pupils were told to 'dress for dinner' in their Sunday best as they were being treated to a 'Book Buffet'.

The Lower Years' girls and boys had lots of fun as they gathered in a dark library and used torches to read special stories whilst laid out on bean bags, with the Upper Years' children sampling some 'tasty books' from the 'Book Buffet' as they tried out different kinds of literature that they may not normally read, they were then given the chance to borrow any of these books at the end of the session if they liked them (all the while dressed in party dresses, dinner suits and top hats!).

The Nursery children were also treated to some special readings from the Junior School Librarians as they too cuddled up on bean bags in their pyjamas with torches to explore some new literature! The Nursery teachers also had a right old giraffe (laugh) dressing up and taking part as well (check out the picture below)!
