St George’s College Director of Music appointed President of MMA
St George’s College, Weybridge is delighted to announce that its Director of Music, Ms Tansy Castledine, has been appointed as President of the MMA (Masters’ and Mistresses’ Music Association) for 2015-2016.
Last year Tansy and her team hosted the MMA annual conference at the College, which was received with huge acclaim by the delegates. On Saturday 16 May, she was inaugurated as President at the Annual General Meeting of the association during this year’s conference, held at Wellington College.
The MMA is the National Association for Music Teaching Professionals and has existed since 1903. The Association is a national voice for music teachers, bringing together Directors of Music, NQTs, instrumental teachers and administrators, and delivers INSET training and regular publications alongside their annual conference. Tansy’s work as President of the MMA will see her launch a national singing event for MMA member schools, a broad range of INSET for music professionals, and a composition competition for pupils in MMA member schools, as well as continuing to coordinate the annual conference, which is to be held this year at Ripley St Thomas, Lancaster.
At St George’s, Tansy directs the award winning Chamber Choir and throughout her time here has staged ambitious projects including four CD recordings and annual large scale concert performances of Bach’s Johannes Passion, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. She has headed international tours, and delivered regular broadcasts for BBC Radio 4. Her upcoming projects include a full performance of Messiah, a return tour to California in 2016 and a staging of Purcell Dido and Aeneas.
Congratulations to Tansy on her new position and we look forward to the exciting musical programme for the year ahead.
