St George’s College Chapel stained glass windows
The stained glass windows in the Chapel at St George’s College, Weybridge create a stunning sense of sacredness and have been in place for two years.
Each of the large stained glass windows has its own theme. The themes of the two windows nearest the sanctuary are ‘Knowledge’ and ‘Understanding’. These were chosen as the first since they represent the two foundations of all learning. The themes of the other eight windows come from the College Prayer. These eight themes are also directly linked to the eight aspects that comprise the Josephite ‘Family Spirit’.
Although each window has its own individual integrity of design and colour, the windows were very carefully planned so that the windows link to each other in progression of colour from the blues, greys and browns in the ‘Immaculate Conception’ and the ‘St Joseph’ windows to the vibrant red and orange in the ‘Holy Spirit’ window. The windows were also designed so that the opposite pairs of windows complement each other in some way. For example ‘Respect’ and ‘Courage’ have their focal points towards the top of the windows while ‘Peace’ and ‘Tolerance’ have clearly discernible animals present in their respective designs.21 December 2014
