Here is the solution to the 'Great Easter Bunny Race' 2019 Maths Quest:
The total distance the bunnies had to race was 40m. You needed to be careful here as there were 9 posts, each 5 metres apart. Because there is a post at each end there are only 8 gaps in between, therefore it is not 9 x 5 = 45 metres, but instead is 8 x 5 = 40 metres.
You also needed to be careful that each bunny did not finish the race with a rest. Moppity and Cloppity both did and so you had to subtract 1 second from their time to account for that rest.
The bunnies finished the race in the following times:
Hoppity took 53 seconds
Moppity took 29 seconds
Cloppity took 19 seconds
Fred took 80 seconds
Therefore, Cloppity was the Easter Bunny this year.
There were correct entries received from 4 children as follows:
Monty S (Bishopsgate School), Thomas F (Riverbridge Primary School) and Lucy D and Luke B (both from St George’s Junior School).
Well done to everyone that participated and look out for the final Maths Quest of the year just before May half term.
