Orchestral Extravaganza 2014

On Thursday 6 November, 80 children from nine different schools came together to spend a day playing orchestral music at St George's College, Weybridge, under the leadership of College music staff. The children spent the morning with instrumental specialists, rehearsing a wide variety of repertoire in various small groups and ensembles around the music department. After lunch, there was time for some games before heading to the College Chapel to rehearse together as a whole orchestra in preparation for the concert at the end of the day.

The concert included two pieces for full orchestra, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Rondeau from Purcell’s Abdelazar suite, as well as a performance from each of the ensembles that had rehearsed during the morning. Much fun was had by all, and many new friendships forged through making music together.

One child commented:

"I really enjoyed the day because I got to meet new people and play music with so many people."
