Local schools crunch the numbers at Junior School Maths Challenge

St George's Junior School played host to 33 local schools from the surrounding areas on Friday 18 May as they all took part in a brilliantly fun Maths Challenge.

Year 4 children from each school (including pupils from the Junior School) participated in the event, and the Junior School was buzzing with excitement as the children excitedly tried to solve every problem thrown their way.

Split into pairs, the boys and girls competed in rounds labelled 'Dicey dicey’, ‘What next’, ‘Make 24’, ‘Dominoes’, ‘Tangrams’ and ‘Sodoku’.

It was an absolutely enthralling afternoon as the children moved from one problem to the other and St George's would like to offer a big congratulations to all of the children that took part - it was a real win for mathematics!

Of course there can only be one winner though, and we are delighted to say that one of the St George's team came out on top to win 1st prize, with the other St George's teams finishing 3rd and 6th overall - a fantastic day's work!

Organiser Douglas Buchanan was thrilled with the proceedings saying: "The enthusiasm of the young mathematicians makes hosting such events so worthwhile."

St George's can't wait to do it all over again next time!
