Getting creative with ceramics

This past term has seen First Year students at St George's College get creative with ceramic tiles in preparation for St George's 150th Anniversary celebrations in 2019.

The students were asked to create 3D ceramic tiles with an emphasis on the past 150 years at St George's and its Catholic, Christian ethos. Therefore most tiles were based on key words and phrases that used at St George's, such as Douceur and Politesse, with students also taking inspiration from the Chapel stained glass windows using words such as Harmony, Strength and Peace. The majority of the tiles also included the St George's shield and the key dates of its existence.

Once the boys and girls had moulded their tiles out of clay, they then had to carefully paint their tiles before they were finally glazed and sent to the kiln.

The results are incredible with a whole host of colourful and imaginative designs being incorporated into the tiles showcasing the talents of our First Year students.
