Boat Club enjoys annual dinner

Saturday 9 May saw record numbers attend the ninth annual St George’s College Boat Club dinner, organised by the Boat Club Parents' Committee and held in the Orchard Hall at the College.

A total of 190 rowing athletes, parents, coaches and guests came together to celebrate the growing success of rowing at St George’s College, raise funds for the Boat Club and listen to an inspirational speech by Greg Searle MBE, the Great Britain Olympic rower and medallist.

Each rower received a copy of Greg’s autobiography, ‘If Not Now, When?’ and his speech centred on this motivational theme, expanding to incorporate ‘If not us, who?’ The spirit of camaraderie and dedication that was so evident in Greg’s approach to winning Olympic Gold struck an accord with all in the room and a highlight for the rowers was holding Greg’s 1992 Olympic Gold medal and his 1996 and 2012 Bronze medals.

The evening culminated in an auction and raffle. Funds raised will now be used to enhance the rowers Boat Club experience. In the past, monies raised have been used to purchase a flat-bed truck to tow the boats, launch trollies and extra stroke coaches.

Thank you to everyone who made the evening such a huge success.
