A brilliant set of GCSE results shows the resilience of St George’s students

St George’s GCSE students have had a brilliant year, with over 98% of all papers awarded 9-6s(A*-B) and 99.8% of all papers achieving 9-4s (A*-C).

The overall percentage of 9-8s (A*) is 58.4%, higher than the last set of public exams sat in 2019 (58.4% v 56.5%). Our top performing subjects demonstrate our perfectly balanced ethos well, with Art achieving 58% 8-9s (A*s); Biology 85%; Chemistry 73%; English Literature 67%; French 63%; History 59.4%; Latin 58%; Maths 66.4%; Physics 70%; and Further Maths 64.3%.

“Well done indeed to the Fifth Year!” said Headmistress Rachel Owens. “They have had a brilliant return to public examinations – I am very proud not only of their raw results, but of the superb Value Added they have attained.”

Congratulations must go to our top performers who achieved a perfect set of 9s (A*): George A, Stefan A, Grace B, Isaac C, Emma F, Amy N, Hannah N, Cat P and Jacob T. A further 14 students achieved all 9-8s (A*), and six of our top students have been with us since joining our Junior School!

Music Scholar Izzy was delighted to achieve all 9s and 8s and is excited to study Geography, Economics and Maths at the College’s Sixth Form. “My plan is to study Maths and Economics at University and to eventually work in the city, so it’s great to have the grades I need to study my chosen subjects at A Level.”

Straight 9s students Isaac and Stefan received their outstanding results while on their Gold Duke of Edinburgh residential near East Grinstead. They shared a photo (below) of their happy faces on opening their results emails.

“I am so proud of all that this year group have achieved, given the tough challenges that lockdowns and online learning have presented them with,” shared Head of Fifth Year Clare Grant. “Not only have they been resilient in the face of these issues, but they have worked incredibly hard to produce these truly fantastic set of GCSE results.”

Fourth Year students also had reason to celebrate, with 83% achieving 9-7 (A*-A) in their English Language IGCSE. And all students who took additional GCSEs in languages, such as Mandarin, Russian and Spanish, achieved 9s (A*).
