Year 5 excel in performance of Shakespeare's 'Henry V'

On 19 and 20 October, Year 5 pupils from St George's Junior School performed an ambitious version of Shakespeare’s Henry V. 

The challenging play was split into four sections, with each of the Year 5 classes performing a section each. The play was performed in modern dress - jeans, tee-shirts and trainers - which brought to life the relevance of Shakespeare’s great history play. The speaking roles were taken by members of Year 5 Drama Club, all of whom remained onstage throughout the hour long production. 

The remainder of Year 5 took the roles of the numerous soldiers and civilians who appear in the play. The pupils delivered Shakespeare’s dialogue skilfully and embraced the physical demands of the play. The cast was brilliantly led by the four young actors playing Henry: Louis, Darcey, Shiwoo and Ciara. The production was directed by Curriculum Leader of Drama, David Lawson Lean with support from Head of Music, Sue Hooley–Smith and the Year 5 team.
