Year 5 able learners attend special RE workshop

On Friday 23 June, some of the more able learners in Year 5 had the opportunity to attend a special RE workshop in St George's Junior School Chapel, led by Fr Richard Biggerstaff.

Fr Richard is a priest in the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton and is currently working as Director of the St Barnabas Society based in Oxford.

The theme of the workshop was ‘Jesus – who do you say I am?’ The children had the chance to look at the Gospels as well as a wide variety of religious art which Fr Richard took them through with great knowledge and some humour. The morning contained much discussion and lively debate and the children extended their vocabulary and religious knowledge, learning new words such as ‘Christology’. As well as this they all deepened their knowledge of Jesus and his teachings as well as developing their own personal relationship with him.

The morning finished with a short liturgy in the Chapel, in which the children shared their thoughts on who Jesus really is and finished by praying for their own intentions for some of God’s children here on earth – some children prayed for those they know well, whilst others remembered different groups of people who are suffering in the UK and other parts of our world.
