Under 11 girls' hockey team crowned IAPS Regional Champions
The talented Under 11 girls' hockey squad met early on Friday 20 October, the last day of half term, to travel to Haileybury School for the IAPS (The Independent Association of Prep Schools) Regional Finals.
The girls approached the tournament in excellent form and were excited to get their campaign underway and claim a place at the National Finals. First up was the group stages:
Game 1 v St Cedd's School - Won 2-0
Game 2 v Woodford Green Prep - Won 9-0
Game 3 v Heath Mount - Won 1-0
Game 4 v Chigwell Junior - Won 3-0
Game 5 v Russell House - Won 5-0
The girls performed brilliantly to come through as group winners.
Then in the quarter final the team played against Bancroft's School and won 4-0 to progress to the semi finals.

After storming through the earlier rounds, the girls came up against Kent College Infant & Junior in the final. In a very close match, it was 0-0 after full time and golden goal, which meant it went to penalty shuffles. With some excellent goalkeeping and hitting from St George's Junior School pupils, the team eventually won 2-0 on penalty shuffles.
The girls were delighted with their victory and were crowned IAPS Regional Champions. As well as this, the team did not concede a single goal for 8 matches, golden goal (1 hour and 35 minutes) and penalty shuffles - an outstanding achievement! At the other end, in front of goal, the girls scored 28 goals during the day.
As well as receiving their medals, the Junior School hockey stars will be seeded 1st from their region going into the draw for the National Finals. The IAPS National Finals are on Friday 10 November at Millfield Senior School, 10am-4.45pm.
Well done from everyone at St George's and bring on the National Finals!
