Under 11 girls' hockey team continues to shine

There was more sporting success for pupils at St George's Junior School at the end of September, as the Under 11A girls' hockey team took part in two tournaments within the space of a week.

Firstly, on Wednesday 27 September, the girls played at the PGS (Portsmouth Grammar School) hockey tournament. The team showed devastating power and vision on the pitch to create space for their attacks, whilst the ball flowed beautifully up the pitch with the girls seemingly knowing their next action before they received the ball. All of the girls' hard work at training shone through, as they scored 22 goals without conceding in the tournament to be crowned champions. A brilliant result.

Under 11A results:

v Farleigh - Won 2-0

v PGS - Won 3-0

v PHS - Won 6-0

v Sherborne House - Won 2-0

v PGS B - Won 3-0

v Meon Cross - Won 4-0

v West Hill Park - Won 2-0

Then, at the weekend, the team finished runners up at a very competitive Danes Hill School Under 11 Hockey Tournament. The girls played brilliantly, with a vast improvement in their decision making being demonstrated throughout the tournament. They won five of their six matches, but couldn't find the target in one game and were penalised with a clinical strike at goal from a short corner. The girls were very proud of their achievements and will endeavour to improve their short corner defence before the next tournament.

Under 11A results:

v Danes Hill - Won 1-0

v Hoe Bridge - Won 3-1

v Hall Grove - Won 3-0

v Hawthorns - Won 2-0

v Downsend - Lost 1-0

v Holy Cross - Won 2-0
