U11 boys' hockey team go unbeaten to be crowned IAPS London and SE England Champions

The Under 11 boys' hockey team at St George's Junior School were crowned IAPS London and SE England Champions at Haileybury School on Tuesday 20 February.

The boys played brilliantly throughout the day, winning all seven of their games, scoring a total of sixteen goals and not conceding a single goal throughout!

Group stages:

Won 2-0 v Bedford Prep School

Won 3-0 v St John’s

Won 1-0 v Heath Mount

Won 2-0 v The Beacon

The boys won their group and qualified for the quarter-finals against Beachborough.

The team went in to the quarter-finals with the knowledge that the top 4 schools would qualify for the National finals (to be hosted at Tonbridge on the last day of term, Wednesday 21 March), so our boys were keen to make an early impact in the game. The boys' work rate was fantastic and their team work and structure meant that they were a difficult team to keep the ball from. Their reluctant pressure and movement led to two fantastic goals, one from a worked penalty corner and one from a break-away attack.

Quarter-finals: Won 2-0 v Beachborough and National Qualification gained.

The other quarter-finals had needed golden goal or penalty shuffles to separate the teams. This was a welcome opportunity for us to rest and regroup to focus on attaining the best seeding position we could going in to the IAPS National Finals.

Semi-finals: we played Felstead Prep School and won 2-0.

Final: St George's was triumphant as they won 4-0 against Bedford Prep School, who they had also played in their first game of the day.

Well done to the boys on a fantastic achievement and for performing so well when up against tough competition.

U11B hockey success

There was also success for the U11B boys' hockey team on Wednesday 21 February as the boys travelled to Woking Hockey Club to compete in the U11 Surrey Plate Competition. All of the boys played brilliantly on the day, winning all 6 games on their way to becoming the U11 Plate Boys' Surrey Hockey winners!

Won 2-1 vs Trinity B

Won 5-1 vs Meath Green

Won 8-0 vs Clifton Lodge
