St George's would like to congratulate talented Junior School pupil, Trixie Hyde, on her appearance as Sybil Hallow in the current BBC television series ‘The Worst Witch.’
Trixie filmed the series last summer and the first episode aired on the 8 January. Trixie, who is in Year 6, is a committed Drama pupil, both in school and in her extra-curricular classes. Junior School Curriculum Leader of Drama, David Lawson Lean, spoke to Trixie about her role in the popular series.
What did you enjoy most about filming The Worst Witch?
I really enjoyed learning more about filming and what takes place behind the camera.
How long did it take to film the series?
It took us about 4 months to film 12 episodes, but it was definitely worth it!
In the series you do a lot of magical things, such as flying. Did you enjoy filming those scenes and seeing the results?
Those types of scene are my favourite. The results always turn out really well, and it is really pleasing to see it all put together with the effects.
Was it difficult to learn all those lines?
It can be difficult because you only receive your lines the night before, but I seemed to manage it! One time I had a page of long lines … that was hard.
What did you learn from the experience?
I learnt a lot - things like run throughs and rehearsals that I would never have thought you would have to do before a scene. A big thing I learnt was how tiring it can be … it is not as easy as it looks. Some scenes took up to 3 hours!
Did you have fun working with the rest of the cast?
I had so much fun with everyone. Everyone is so kind. I have made friends for life.
You can watch Trixie in ‘The Worst Witch’ on CBBC on Mondays at 5.00 pm.
