Stanford success

Sixth Form student Jessica De Suza from St George's College has gained a place at the prestigious Stanford University in the USA and tells us about this wonderful news:

"I have always loved many aspects of the US higher education system: the broad liberal arts curriculum, never ending activities/clubs and the plethora of study abroad opportunities available.

It was these precise qualities that made the bureaucracy, gruelling 6am SAT tests, countless hours of extra-curricular activities, interviews and the abstract essays, all on top of balancing five A levels, seem worth it.

On the 1st of April, I was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief after receiving seven offers from top US institutions, including four Ivy leagues.

I owe a massive thank you to my parents, to Mrs Smith, Mr Danaher and Mr Waight for writing my recommendations, as well as to all the other teachers and peers who have helped me fervently throughout this process. As a result, I have made the decision to accept Stanford University’s offer.

This journey alone and St George's has allowed me to truly understand the meaning of courage, personal strength in the face of adversity, and what it means to be your own biggest supporter. I cannot wait to become a Stanford tree with some of the world’s most remarkable individuals and to put into practice all that I have learnt throughout my time at St George’s."
