St George’s Weybridge and Classlist pioneer new fundraising approach for 150th Anniversary climbing wall
Classlist co-founder Clare Wright, together with Weybridge business leaders Grant Letts of Curchods Estate Agents and Ceri Richardson of Brooklands Hotel, presented a £1,175 cheque to St George’s College Headmistress, Rachel Owens, and St George’s Junior School Headmaster, Antony Hudson, on Tuesday 10 October in order to help to kickstart the Parents’ Association’s drive to fund a new climbing wall.
Classlist is now the largest private social network for school parents, snowballing since 2015 with over 1,500 UK schools registered, it is free to users and supported by local sponsors. St George’s Weybridge, leading independent co-ed day school in Surrey, was an early Classlist adopter with a strong vision of using new technology to build parent engagement. Well over 90% of parents are now active school community participants through Classlist’s platform.
Kelly Walsh from the schools’ Parents’ Association became a nationwide leader in using Classlist’s innovative revenue share scheme, where PTAs which introduce local sponsors keep 50% of the proceeds. The win–win model, where local businesses partner with the Parents’ Association to raise funds and give parents visibility of their services, has enormous potential.
Kelly Walsh commented: “Classlist has helped to build a close-knit and engaged parent community at St George’s and it is fantastic being able to use it to raise money for the school by introducing sponsors. This cheque will kickstart our drive to fund a climbing wall for the new Activity Centre which will be opened in 2019 to coincide with the 150th Anniversary.”
Classlist founders Susan Burton and Clare Wright commented: “We’re thrilled to see Classlist making parents’ lives easier at St George’s, and the Parents’ Association taking advantage of what can be a hugely powerful fundraising tool at any school.”
Grant Letts, Managing Partner at Curchods Estate Agents commented: “Curchods are delighted to be working with both St George’s and Classlist. The money raised is an extremely meaningful amount and any PTA would find the fundraising tool extremely beneficial.”
Ceri Richardson, Head of Business Development at Brooklands Hotel commented: “We are thrilled to play a part in fund raising for St George’s Weybridge. Classlist has enabled us to raise the profile of Brooklands Hotel within the parent community at St George’s and we look forward to continuing a successful partnership.”
