St George's hosts rugby team from Josephite School, Melle College, Belgium
Earlier this term (Thursday 19 October), St George's College played host to a rugby team from their sister Josephite School, Melle College, in Belgium.
The Belgians travelled over to meet their St George' counterparts, to take a tour of the wonderful grounds and also to receive some first class rugby training from the coaches at St George's.
Once the groups had gotten to know each other and train with each other, it was then time to go head, with St George's second team facing the Melle College visitors.
Upper Sixth student Rory, wrote up a report on this special game:
"On Thursday 19 October, the St George’s College Rugby second team played against a fellow Josephite school from Belgium, Melle College.
This match was not only great fun, but also promoted fair play and encouraged unity between the schools. St George’s recorded a confident win, with some excellent performances from Matt Inwood, scoring four tries, and a debut from Mattie Parkinson from the Fifth Year, who also scored two tries. All of the boys performed very well from both sides, and there were some flashes of brilliance from the opposition fly-half that forced us to adapt defensively. All in all, the match was an excellent learning experience both on and off the pitch, and demonstrated the importance of Georgian spirit."
