St George's 1st XI football team take on rivals Heathside School

After the introduction of the Sixth Form football team last year at St George's College, the team has gone from strength to strength and has continued to flourish this term.

Working in conjunction with their teachers, the boys select the teams, positions, rotate the substitutions and take an active interest in allowing Sixth Form students the opportunity to participate in competitive sport.

On Wednesday 4 October, St George's 1st XI played a highly competitive match against local rivals Heathside School - the big Weybridge derby. In the autumn sunshine, the team represented the school brilliantly, whilst dressed smartly in their brand new kit.

In a high profile match, St George’s triumphantly ran out 5-1 winners courtesy of goals from 4 different players. Despite high tension throughout the match, the boys played admirably to secure a great result for the school, showing quality and intelligence.

Football Coach, Joe Menezes, spoke about the victory, saying; "Overall, it was a very strong performance from a team that were playing together for only the second time."

Well done to all the students that took part in this great victory.
