Spring Concert - 'A Brief History of Musical Time'

As a tribute to Professor Stephen Hawking, who sadly passed away on Wednesday 14 March, this year's Spring Concert at St George's College was a musical journey through the history of music.

The College choirs, ensembles and scholar soloists gathered together on Friday 16 March to perform Renaissance dances, Classical sacred music, Romantic opera and modern musicals.

The highlight of the programme was the orchestra’s brave and inspired performance of American minimalist music – the conductor even left the stage to allow the performers to craft and shape the music themselves as they played it – and the exhilarating finale of John Adam’s fanfare “Short ride in a fast machine”.

Bravo to all!
