Reception learn all about Diwali

On Thursday 19 October, girls and boys in Reception learnt all about different Religions from around the world as part of their “Ourselves and children from around the World” topic!

The children learnt all about the story of Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Light. The children acted out the story of brave Prince Rama and beautiful Princess Sita; learning traditional Bollywood dance moves such as the "Peacock" and the "Lotus" before putting the story to music. The children especially enjoyed acting out the great battle between the strong and wise Monkey King, Hanuman, and terrible Demon King, Ravana!

The following day the children had great fun taking part in special Diwali workshops in their classrooms, where they lit their own candles and dressed up in brightly decorated and colourful saris; a traditional Hindu dress often favoured by Diwali celebrants.
