Girl cricketers receive masterclass from an England great

Last week (16 March), girl cricketers at St George's College were treated to a very special masterclass from one of England's finest female cricketers, Lydia Greenway.

Renowned as one of the best catchers and fielders in women's cricket, Lydia played at the top of the women's game with England in a very successful 13 year career. She played in 14 Test matches scoring 362 runs, 126 One Day Internationals scoring 2554 runs and 85 T20Is (Twenty20 International) scoring 1,192 runs.

The girls' cricketers at St George's were thrilled to meet an England women's icon and couldn't wait to get started. Lydia put the girls through their paces, first with some drills to improve their catching and throwing, then setting them tasks with the bat, the whole time giving advice and imparting wisdom where she could.

All of the girls who attended one of these classes learnt a lot from Lydia and had a lot of fun doing it. They were also very interested to hear stories from Lydia about life as an England cricketer.
