Georgian spirit shines through at Sports Day
On Tuesday 4 July, students at St George’s College took part in the much anticipated annual inter-house Sports Day.
The Sports Day was blessed with wonderful weather and the students were eager to get going. Everywhere you looked students were competing in different events, whether it was shot-put, discus, long jump, high jump or running events on the track.
Both on the track and field, records were tumbling, as students jumped to record heights and distances, they threw the shot-put and discus further than any students have ever thrown these objects before and they clocked the quickest times ever run by students at St George's. As always, the hugely popular and competitive tug of war contest also took place, much to the enjoyment of students and parents alike.
After all the races and events had finished it was time to tally up the results and find out who would be crowned champions of the 2017 Sports Day. As the children sat nervously on the bank awaiting the results, it was finally revealed that this year's winning house was...Southcote House. Well done to everyone in Southcote.
1st - Southcote - 1394 points
2nd - Stirling - 1352 points
3rd - Petre - 1341 points
4th - Kilmorey - 1261 points
As well as the students in attendance and the Parents' Association, who were on hand to give out refreshments, there was also a brilliant turnout of parents who came to cheer on their children and add to the support, as well as enjoy the afternoon tea put on by the Development Office at the College.
The afternoon was a huge success and a fitting way to end the academic year, with smiles on everyone's faces and with true Georgian spirit on display.
