Georgian family gather together to celebrate launch of Activity Centre project

Current parents and staff, Old Georgians, Old Maurians and many other friends of St George's gathered at the College on Saturday 14 October eager to learn all about the biggest and most exciting building development St George's has ever undertaken - the Activity Centre.

Tying in with St George's 150 year Anniversary in 2019, guests were given the opportunity to watch fly-through videos of the new Activity Centre building, speak to the architects that designed the building and view a scaled down 3D model of the building.

As well as this, St George's welcomed two very special guest speakers to the College, Hockey Olympic Gold Medallists Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh. Kate and Helen spoke about their own sporting experiences and then detailed the benefits the Activity Centre will have for future generations of children at St George's. Visitors were then invited to meet the Hockey players and pose for a photo if they wished.

As if that wasn't enough, there was also a 26ft climbing wall where parents and children could go head-to-head in seeing who got to the top first, as well as a special 90ft artifical caving system with tunnels, stalagmites, caves, drops and even a ball pit! Suffice to say,  there was something fun for everybody.

The reason behind this wonderful launch party was to make people aware of the stunning architectural development that will be built over the next two years. This incredible Activity Centre will inspire our children to be the very best versions of themselves, encouraging them to embrace a multitude of activities. It will be a place to build confidence, character and lifelong friendships.

From the onset of this project, St George's was driven by the desire to be collaborative and inclusive. The Activity Centre is founded on these values and the result is a facility that is modern and flexible - it will cater for all sport, a wide range of activities and be a space to meet, socialise and entertain.

The Activity Centre will be built 'brick by brick' and St George's will be taking this approach to its fundraising. Every penny counts and brings the school closer to its target.
