End of year service wonderfully celebrated in 'The Shady Glade'
The whole of St George’s College gathered in 'The Shady Glade' on the last day of term (5 July 2017) for the annual end of year service, with the exception of the Fifth Form and Upper Sixth, those involved in high level sports and those students starting their summer expeditions and school tours abroad.
As the School was adorned in sunshine, it was decided that the special end of year service would be celebrated outdoors in the wonderful grounds of the College, in 'The Shady Glade' as it became known for the day (just opposite the Sports Hall). The Mass was celebrated by College Chaplain Fr Martin Ashcroft and the special occasion saw over 600 pupils, teachers and Business Staff gather under the trees in the shade to reflect on the significant successes of the past year in many aspects of College life and to give thanks to everyone who has made this possible.
The Mass and gathering was also a opportunity to say farewell from the whole school to those who are leaving St George’s at this time.
The focus of the special service then shifted to the annual House Shield competition, with nervous and excited glances shared amongst competing students. After a tense wait, it was finally revealed that Petre House was crowned winners once more.
It was a wonderful end to a fantastic year at St George's.
Earlier in the day, students and staff were treated to a delicious, 'al fresco' outdoor barbecue on the Orchard Pitch as they soaked up the sun together and made the most of the last day of the year.
